Just 20 minutes south of Saskatoon, Dakota Dunes Resort on Whitecap Dakota Territory invites travellers to experience the prairies in a new light — and under a spectacular night sky.
In summer 2025, the resort introduced its latest attraction: the Dakota Dunes Cosmic Dome, an 8-metre geodesic dome offering an immersive journey through the cosmos. Here, the wonders of astronomy meet Indigenous star knowledge, guided by ancestral Dakota teachings and brought to life through cutting-edge projection technology.
This 45-minute experience takes guests beyond traditional stargazing, blending science, culture, and spirituality into one seamless story of the night sky. Those looking to deepen it can choose the “Enhance Your Experience” add-on, featuring telescopic stargazing beneath the open prairie sky and a bannock & bonfire gathering - a moment to connect with the land, its people, and the universe above.
Set amid sweeping sand dunes, Dakota Dunes Resort combines contemporary comfort with cultural authenticity. Its 155 rooms feature Indigenous-inspired design, with angular architecture echoing the form of a traditional tipi. Guests can also enjoy a rooftop pool, fitness centre, restaurant, and the Wanuskewin gift shop, along with year-round activities such as canoeing, nature walks, snowshoeing, and storytelling gatherings.
The word “Dakota” means friend or ally, reflecting a worldview built on respect, peace, and harmony - values that continue to shape the Whitecap Dakota community today.
With the introduction of the Cosmic Dome, stargazing becomes storytelling — and Dakota Dunes Resort continues to redefine what it means to experience the prairies: a place where modern comfort and ancient wisdom meet under infinite skies.
