A new chapter of connection, culture, and eco-friendly adventure has arrived at Waters Edge Eco Lodge. Nestled along the peaceful shores of Greig Lake in the heart of Saskatchewan’s Meadow Lake Provincial Park, the lodge — proudly owned and operated by Waterhen Lake First Nation — has just unveiled its newest addition: the Tipi Village, now welcoming guests for summer stays.

Just steps away from the main lodge, ten beautifully crafted tipis offer a rare blend of traditional Indigenous design and modern comfort. Each tipi stands on a sturdy wooden platform and is built using sustainable materials, in keeping with the Lodge’s strong commitment to environmental stewardship and community values. At Waters Edge Eco Lodge, sustainability is not just a practice — it is a way of life. Every detail, from the low-impact construction to the thoughtful integration with the landscape, reflects a deep respect for the land and the generations who have lived in harmony with it.

Staying in the Tipi Village is an invitation to slow down and fully immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and rhythms of nature. Wake up to the scent of the boreal forest, feel the gentle breeze from the lake, and watch the stars unfold across a vast, unpolluted sky — all from the comfort of your own authentic, eco-friendly retreat.

More than just a place to sleep, the Tipi Village offers guests a gateway to meaningful cultural experiences led by members of the Waterhen Lake First Nation. Two exclusive Indigenous-led excursions bring the spirit of the land and sky to life:

Askiy – Land Experience: A three-hour guided journey through the trails and forests, featuring wildlife viewing, traditional berry picking, and tipi teachings that connect guests to centuries-old knowledge and stories.

Acâhkos – Celestial Experience: A magical nighttime excursion where Indigenous star stories light up the sky, complemented by breathtaking stargazing under some of the clearest skies in the province.

Guests can book these experiences individually or as part of a larger overnight package, which includes accommodation in the new Tipi Village, Indigenous culinary offerings, and cultural storytelling sessions that leave a lasting impact.

The new Tipi Village isn’t just about experiencing nature — it’s about honoring it. Every visit supports the Waterhen Lake First Nation community and reinforces the importance of travel that gives back, respects tradition, and embraces sustainability.
